Destiny, the first album that gives The Jacksons complete artistic control, goes Platinum. The single ‘Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground),’ written by Randy and Michael, sells over 2 million copies and becomes a double-platinum selling single. Then, The Jacksons go Hollywood with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Michael proves his destiny as a solo artist with the release of ‘Off the Wall’ – selling 20 million copies worldwide.
The Jackson begin a 13-Day tour of Britain. Seven concerts have to be cancelled due to Michael’s strained voice. Pickwick Records produces ‘Zip-a-dee-doo-dah,’ which is a compilation of The Jackson 5 songs. The Jacksons are on the cover of Jet. magazine The Jacksons begin a world tour to promote the ‘Destiny’ album. ‘Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)’ enters the Black Singles Chart peaking at #3 and remains on the charts for 23 weeks. It goes on to become their first multi-platinum single and the biggest-selling hit single The Jacksons ever recorded, with over 2.5 million copies sold.

‘Destiny’ is certified Gold. The Jacksons fly to Switzerland for 2 days to film two numbers for an ABBA special: ‘Shake Your Body Down To The Ground’ and ‘Blame it on the Boogie’. ‘Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)’ is certified Gold. ‘Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)’ is certified Platinum. The Jacksons begin recording ‘Triumph’ (LP).
